BOOK I: "IT IS NOT MY WORD--NOR MY WILL"
By Sharon Warner Independence, MO
CHAPTER I
1 I well remember the phone call that came from my husband who was attending the 1984 World Conferene. I had remained at home--and when he called to inform me that the conference had voted to accept women in the priesthood I was in shock. 2 Though I was aware that the groundwork had been laid for many years to do that, I still did not believe the Saints, when it came to the vote, would actually embrace the ordination of women. 3 The members of my congregation who had attended the conference returned with glowing accounts for the message the prophet had brought. Even those who had previous opposed women in the priesthood were now convinced of its rightness. 4 For days I dealt with anger, frustration, and unbelief that our leaders would allow such heresy to come into the Church to deceive the membership. I was praying fervently for the Lord to help me cope with the feelings I was experiencing. My very soul was in anguish! 5 During this time of supplication to the Lord, I had an experience that caused me to rejoice.
