Chapter One
This is a hypothetical work of fiction.
I was coming home from Rick's house on my bike when I stopped to get my mail. I opened the letter inside when I got to my apartment. The stamp had a heart on it, was addressed in purple ink and it was a light blue envelope.
The letter said,
Dear Brent,
You think you know, pretend that you know me, but you don't. I have read a lot of your journals and seen a lot of your videos, and am in love with you. I want you to know the real me. I don't live too far away from you. Please write back. Have a good life. -Maggie May Savoie
PS My telephone Number is 81*.***.**** and you can write me anytime.
Love, Always, Maggie May
P.S. In case your wondering, I'm still pure.
I closed the letter, put it back in the envelope, and wrote out the letter in my Diary, then made a long entry in it, typed the entry on my DiaryLog site, starring out the number, and shouted Praises to God. I was so, so happy!
* * *
The next day after work, I called the number.
“Hello, is this Maggie?", I said.
"Brent?" Glad to talk to you again. I live in Bates City. I'm about 10 miles away from you. Would you like to go on a date? I live in a beautiful ******* house. You walked there once."
"We can meet up at McDonald's." I said.
“Can we go out to China Buffet instead?" She asked. I can pay for it, but I know you don't mind that.” I agreed, and asked her to pick me up.
"I know how to get there, you advertise it all over the internet." She said. "I bet you're really good with computers"
"Kinda" I said.
During lunch, in the truck ride to the restaurant, and in the truck ride back to my apartment, we filled each other in on the details of our lives since we had graduated. She seemed intrigued that I told her about God calling me to Missouri, and when I called it Zion, asked wasn't that Israel, giving me my first opportunity to witness to her. I asked if she had read all my Diaries, and what faith she was.
“Baptist, and actually, no. I've looked through a lot of the material, but haven't read all of it, but I do find your Star Wars Episode 12 fascinating. And I also read Episode 13. That's it. I read some of your good books and periodicals too.
“Are you a Cessationist?”
“No, more of a Free Will Pentecostal Baptist, Brent.”
"What church do you go to."
"Oh, for f***'s sake, I haven't been to church in three years" she said, basically.
"I basically, eat, sleep, keep my house up, read books, etc" she said to paraphrase her.
"I'm comfortable with me" She said.
“That's good.”
“Well, we're here.”
“What do you want to do when we get inside?”
“Watch TV? Eat chips?”
I don't have chips but I have almonds and walnuts.”
She smiled.
“And we can study the Bible,” I said.
“Ok. I've never seen the inside of your apartment. I'm eager to check it out.”
“It's a little messy and my dishes aren't washed.”
“I don't care about that, Brent. I care about you.”
“Okay”
We went up the stairs, I opened the door and we stepped inside.
“Where's your TV?”
“My TV is my laptop, Maggie.”
“OK, what do you want to watch.”
“How much of Star Wars have you seen?”
“Bits and pieces.”
“What do you know about Darth Vader”
“He's the big guy in the black suit, right?”
“Yes. What do you know about his family?”
“Nothing”
“Ok. We'll start with Episode I. Have you seen it?”
“No.”
“Pull up a chair. The office chair is more comfortable. I'll make some walnut/almond/cranberry/raisin trailmix for us as you watch it.”
“Okay, sounds good. Does this have Ahsoka Tano in it? I like her.”
“Not yet.”
“Okay.”
“As I made the trailmix, listening to Maggie watch and react to Episode One (She said she really liked the opening music) , I thought of how lucky and blessed I was to have a woman like Maggie back in my life. Then I brought out the mix and place it upon the table where my laptop was showing the movie. We were already on the scene where the Naboo Cruiser was running the blockade. I asked Maggie what she thought of Jar Jar. She said he was awesome. I smiled and raised my eyebrows.
She asked me if the evil guy in the hood was Emperor Palpatine. I told her she would have to find out. She said that was okay, because she already believed it strongly.
I watched her as she ate her food. She ate delicately, and slowly, methodically, as she had eaten her Chinese food. She later asked me where my bathroom was and I told her how to get there. I paused the movies as she went.
She absolutely LOVED the podracing scene. She cheered Anakin on, not knowing his dark fate.
When she saw Qui-Gon die, she was nearly heartbroken.
At the end of the movie I had been finished with my trailmix for a long time but Maggie still was not even halfway done with hers. “Wanna go get ice cream?” She said.
“Maybe we've had enough food for now” I said. Let's wait on that.” I replied.
“Okay.” she said. Let's watch Episode II”
“Hey, tomorrow's Wednesday. Will you go to the RLDS Church with me?”
“Sure. Will you go to church with me sometimes too?”
“Yes,” I said. “Will you go to Pastor Pete's church with me sometimes?”
“Yes,” she said.
“Before we watch Episode II, let's study the Bible”
“Okay”
“Do you care which version?” I queried.
“No”
“Even the Joseph Smith Version?”
“You can use it. Maybe I'll learn something.”
For the next two hours, we sat on the floor studying the Inspired Version, both taking turns leading the study. She had gotten a notebook from her truck and was taking copious notes from our study.
Then we watched Episode II. Her opinion of it (it made her very emotional in certain places) was it was not as good as Episode I but it was 'excellent' and 'very cool'. She liked Count Dooku.
Then we watched Clone Wars 2003 Volumes 1 and 2. She absolutely adored them. She thought Padme was a brave, strong character.
When she saw Ahsoka Tano for the first time in the Clone Wars movie 2008, she cheered her on every time she was in action.
We watched Season One, Episode One of The Clone Wars then stopped for the night. She absolutely loved that Episode, now knowing why Yoda was so highly esteemed in our Commencement address in 2002 as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Yoda hero. He had underperformed, Maggie said, in Attack of the Clones, not being able to beat Dooku, but had gotten better since then. She wanted to see more of that Droid General, “the terrorizing one” and Ahsoka Tano. I told her, don't worry, you'll get your wish. She also said that the Clone Wars series made the Clones seem more human than they had seemed in Attack of the Clones. I agreed. We parted company, and I gave her a quick side hug goodbye. I made sure she did not forget her notebook. She also wanted to borrow one of my Diaries. I let her borrow my blue record book, since it was the first.
“I'll pick you up for Church tomorrow at 6:30 PM. See you then. We'll watch more of the Clone Wars Series at my house afterwards. I have a subscription to Disney+ because I watch Marvel Comics things. It should be better than fast32. We can eat Orville Redenbacher popcorn together. Would you like that?
“Sounds awesome” I said. See you tomorrow.”
* * *
I had the day off from work the next day and streamed RAID and Old School RuneScape, then studied the Bible for two hours, making notes in my Diary. Then I wrote part of Star Wars Episode 11 for a couple hours and ate dinner. Then it was time for Church. I donned my jacket and went outside on my front porch to wait for Maggie's truck. She arrived at exactly 6:30 PM. I got into her truck which she had already unlocked for me (wonderful girl!) and I directed her to Church, telling her on the way how a Wednesday night prayer and Testimony Service worked. She was fascinated. Just before we walked in she grabbed me and said that she could feel the Holy Spirit here strongly. We walked in, hand in hand and found a seat in the Sanctuary. She testified about God bringing me back in her life and about all the wonderful people she had met in Missouri and about how God had blessed her. She also gave a beautiful humble prayer.
After Church we drove to her house in Bates City. She gave me back my walking stick, and after I used her bathroom, she made popcorn as I put on Disney+ and Clone Wars Season 1, Episode 2. We watched the Clone Wars until 2 in the morning on her big screen TV with internet, talking up a storm, sitting very close on her couch. At 2:15 AM I was home and had pleasant dreams that night. The next day I worked and Maggie had work and appointments with people, and she visited one of her friends, so we didn't see each other that day. But Friday we watched three whole Seasons of the Clone Wars at her house, then ate out at an all-night 50's style diner in Independence, enjoying ourselves immensely. On Saturday we studied the Bible for two hours, then she took me to a meeting at her Baptist congregation. I learned a lot that day. By next Tuesday we had watched all but the last two Episodes of the Clone Wars series. I told her tomorrow we needed to watch Revenge of the Sith and the last two Episodes of Clone Wars after that and after that would she go to another Prayer Meeting with me. She said yes, because they were WAY better than her Baptist Wednesday meetings, by far, and she would definitely go. So the next day we watched Revenge of the Sith on Disney+ at her house and she cried when Anakin became Vader. She really, really cried, weeping on my shoulder. By now, I had composed a letter to her, and had given it to her. It said,
Dearest Pearl (For your name means Pearl),
My love for you has matured over time. It was not real love at first. While I was smitten, it was more like puppy love than anything. Even recently. But now I have gotten to know you and have truly fallen in love with the real you, not my fantasy conception of you. Now that we are adults, and not kids anymore, what a difference time makes! You still haven't lost a whit of your grace or beauty you had in school, yet you seem wiser and more mature than I remember. You are easy to get along with, kind, charitable, and a real friend. I love you, Maggie May Savoie. I really do.
~Love, your Brently.
When she read it, her eyes went wide with pleasure and delight. She looked at me and told me she loved me too, Brently, smiling warmly.
She drove me to our second prayer service together, and afterwards we went to see Spider-Man: No Way Home together. We did not eat anything, but I drank an Extra Large Dr. Pepper. She took some sips. During the movie we held hands. She never once let go of my hand.
After she drove me home, she kissed me on the cheek, and told me she'd see me at Pastor Pete's church on Sunday and to stay in touch. She gave me a big goofy grin. I smiled.
On Thursday I was browsing the JCRB and Cause of Zion Websites when I came across a rumor of someone claiming to have the Golden Plates in Mexico and claiming that the work in Brazil and the USA had failed and God had raised him up to continue the work. He was a Gringo by the name of John Franklin and he claimed he had been visited by the Father and the Son, Raphael, Moroni, John and the Three Nephites. Joseph F. Smith decried this man as a charlatan and so did Gary Whiting and the other JCRB Apostles, but I was very curious. I called Joy to get her opinion on it, and she said she hadn't looked into it yet, and Joseph said to stay away from it. “Do you always do what you're told?” I asked her, and we hung up. I was excited. This was exactly what I had been looking for. For one, I knew that the Restructured Church had laid down the Sealed Book, and for another thing, I knew that Mauricio had led his part of the Church into error in Brazil, and for another thing I also knew that there was a second part of the Sealed Book, The Prophecies of Samuel and The First Third of the Revelations of John, that still needed to come to light before the Day of the Lord, plus whenever God did a work, the previous work he did was critical of it, so all those parameters matched in John Franklin's story. I was already all in. But how could I find out more information or get involved? The work was still new. I decided not to doubt the work in Mexico as I had the Work in Brazil, although I had not started out doubting it, I had spent a long time in doing so. I decided that I would disregard all of the Mexico Work's detractors from the outset.
